A survey investigating the UK’s dream housemates found that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made the top list of the most wanted royal cohabitants. The couple, who have recently quit their senior royal roles, were also in the top three with Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge.
Where did the other royals place & who could be the least wanted royal housemate?
The royals have been through a lot recently. Megan & Harry are out and are expecting another child, Prince Andrew is still surrounded in controversy & if that wasn’t enough, Prince Philip has recently been admitted into hospital (albeit as a precautionary measure).
With all that going on and with the UK now starting to feel the full effects of Brexit it’s clear that the royals are still a big talking point among Brits.
Let’s look into this a little further.
Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge impressively rounded out the top 3 with the same percentage of votes as Megan.
Unsurprisingly Charles, Prince of Wales came in last place with only 2% of people wanting him as their royal housemate of choice.
Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II eased in at a respectable fourth place with 6% of the total vote.
Royal HouseMate | Age Group |
---|---|
Prince Harry | 18% of Generation Z wanted prince Harry as their royal housemate |
Meghan | 19% of Millennials voted for Meghan as their royal housemate of choice |
Prince Harry | 26% of over 45’s surveyed wanted Prince Harry as their royal housemate |
Meghan is the dream housemate for younger generations. Almost a fifth of millennials (19%) voted her as the royal they’d most want to share a home with, and she was second spot for Generation Z (16%).
Whilst Harry was top of the list for Generation Z with almost a fifth (18%) of the vote and second for millennials with 14 per cent.
Harry’s sister-in-law The Duchess of Cambridge closely followed with one in ten millennials choosing her. However, she missed out on the top five for Generation Z who declared they would rather live with the older members of the royal family putting The Queen (7%), Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh (6%) and William, the Duke of Cambridge (5.5%) in top spots.
Surprisingly, with the over 45 year-olds surveyed, more than a quarter (26%) wanted Harry as their dream royal housemate, despite his announcement of transitioning this year into a progressive new role.
It could be that the older generation are proud of Harry & Meghan wanting to drop their senior roles and live more independent lives? Time will tell…

Note: Research was conducted by Housebuyers4u using results from an official Censuswide survey of 2,000 UK residents looking at what and who would make the dream housemate.
It’s clear that despite ‘Megxit’ the younger generation have been won over by Harry and Meghan and would love to have them stay closer to home. In fact, as close as their own home.
Housemates live in close proximity so I wonder how the newly financially independent royals will fair with sharing their home.

definitely not Meghan she would be high maintenance and too full of herself. Harry would be no good without her so he would have to go, he needs her guidance lol and complete worship and who knows what else. I would choose Fergie down to earth Fergie is for me.
Definitely not me Me me Megan she has no respect for the royal family or the British people, Harry can no longer function if she is not propping him up, & telling what to do..
My favourites would be Catherine & William, beautiful couple .
